The vegetation consist predominantly of Karoo scrub and grassland, with scattered trees and bushes. A number of game species, including kudu, black wildebeest, blesbok, red hartebeest and springbok, have been introduced, and mountain reedbuck, common duiker and steenbok occur naturally. The birdlife, typical of semi-arid habitats, includes such species as larks, and waterbirds attracted to the dam. Location: Northern part of the region; Burgersdorp. Access: From Burgersdorp take the gravel road (signposted) to the waterworks; the reserve lies a short distance to the east of town. Permits can be obtained from the waterworks officer. Accommodation: None. There is a hotel in Burgersdorp and a camping site with ablution facilities outside the reserve at De Bruin Dam. Other facilities: Short stretch of gravel road; 7 km of walking trails; game-viewing. Open: Throughout the year. Opening time: By prior arrangement. |
